Review of Homework:

  • Share one word to depict mood. Explain difference between mood and describing the character.
Disturbing mood - twisted character.
  • Share setting task. What is the setting? Where is he telling it from or where the story is taking place? He is telling a story and the setting is the place where the story he is telling is taking place.
  • Reviewed plot line - "Tell-Tale Heart" starts off quickly.
  • Reviewed the figurative language in the story. Discussed clues (capital letter in death "Death" not normally capitalized - hint of personification). Reviewed purpose of using similes and metaphors - to create an image, build a bridge, deepening understanding.

Finished "Tell -Tale Heart"

Homework: Think of a place (beach, a particular room or part of a room, an outside place, a park, a place - real, from a book, from your imagination). List 5 images (descriptive sentences or phrases) that help the reader "see" this place. Appeal to at least 3 of the 5 senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch). Challenge: Create a simile or a metaphor that compares a part of your place to something else; the simile/metaphor should be created to help the reader "see" the place or create a better understanding.
